Personal & Real Estate Taxes

The County Tax Collector collects ad valorem tax on Personal and Real Estate taxes, which include municipal, county, library, school, and improvement district taxes. The collector is required by law to settle and disperse all tax revenue to the County Treasurer monthly.

The current Personal and Real Estate Taxes for the state of Arkansas is 1% – 7% and 0.62% effectively, respectively and are due March 1st. Taxpayers will have from March 1 – October 15 to pay their taxes. Failure to do so will incur a 10% penalty, with additional fees like daily interests and advertising fees to be charged if payment is not received or postmarked by October 15th.

Personal Taxes should be paid before or at the same time as Real Estate Taxes.

Personal Property Assessment

In order to obtain the value of your possessions and properties, assessors from the County Assessor’s Office will assess your property. You must have your personal properties assessed between January 1st to May 31st and taxes must be paid between March 1st and October 15th of each year to avoid incurring penalties and to minimize inconveniences.

Arkansas License Plates

The Arkansas Office of Motor Vehicles (OMV) is a division of the Department of Finance and Administration (DFA) that regulates vehicle registrations and renewals in the state.  Once your vehicle is registered, the OMV is also responsible for the issuance of license plates. It is very important to have an Arkansas license plate issued by the OMV in the state of Arkansas for most vehicles. These include passenger cars, trucks, vans, motorcycles, motorhomes, and all-terrain vehicles (ATVs).

All vehicles must have their license plates on the front and rear-side of their vehicles while others are only required to have one on the rear, depending on the type of vehicle. Rear license plates should also have a validation sticker showing the expiration date of the registration.

The OMV also issues specialized license plates in addition to the standard plate, which include personalized and military plates. Persons with disabilities (PWDs) are eligible to obtain the disabled parking licensed plate.

In order to obtain an AR license plate, your vehicle must be registered with the OMV within 30 days of moving into Arkansas and/or within 30 days of buying the vehicle. Once the registration and license plate expires, the vehicle registration must be renewed. A new sticker will be handed over with a new date to put over the old one.

Remember that the OMV offers registration renewal online, by phone, by mail, and by personal appearance.
