Look: Schedule Released for JazzFest Schedule 2018

The Hot Springs Jazz Society is bringing back its annual jazz music festival for its 27th year. The event is sponsored by the Hot Springs Jazz Society and will be presented in various venues around Hot Springs, including Hot Springs National Park. Tickets for the different events during the festival will range anywhere from free to $40.

The festival will also include the annual free outdoor concert known as Jazz in the Streets on September 1st, from 11:00 A.M. to 6:30 P.M.. The outdoor concert will be headlined by the Ted Ludwig Trio, followed by the Arkansas High School Jazz Band, Henderson State’s NuFusion, and the University of Arkansas in Monticello with special guest Matt Catingub.

Also present and performing on different events within the festival are Arkansas Brass, the Arkansas High Jazz Band, Jackie Beaumont, Shirley Chauvin, Dick Eckstein, Bill Halbrook, Anything That Moves (ATM), Earl Hesse, Diane Kesling, Dr. John Leisenring, Gary Meggs, Les Pack, Elsen Portugal, Clyde Pound, George “Doc” Ryan, the Spa City Stompers, and Paul Stivitts.

Thursday, August 30

Jazz Night at The Ohio Club

Presented in a favorite watering hole of Hot Springs and the oldest bar in Arkansas, Jazz Night at The Ohio Club will feature the Spa City Stompers. You’ll be treated to a Dixieland band that just squeezes onto the stage and be offered a menu that includes the “Best Burger” in town. Spa City Stompers is led by George “Doc” Ryan on cornet with Paul Stivitts on drums, David Higginbotham on bass, Clyde Pound on keyboard, Earl Hesse on clarinet and John Leisenring on trombone.

Time: 7:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.

Classical & Jazz Blow Out!

The Arkansas Brass quintet and the ATM (Anything That Moves) jazz combo come together in a singular evening of classical music and jazz music. Mezzo-soprano Diane Kesling will treat with a tribute to Leonard Bernstein and a specially accompanied Aria with Elsen Portugal on the keys. Jackie Beaumont will get into groove between duties as emcee and special guest musician, Matt Catingub will perform on saxophone and keyboard as well as sing. This evening, accompanied by an optional dinner, is Bursting With Entertainment in this intimate night club style venue that offers a rare opportunity to experience the musicians up close and personal.

JAZZ in the STREETS

This traditional outdoor concert under the Sky-Bridge that covers 200 Broadway Street will present hours of music on two stages.  Bring your favorite lawn chair!!  There will be food trucks and beverages so plan on spending the day listing to some amazing Jazz in Hot Springs’ Entertainment District.

11:00A.M. – Ted Ludwig Trio

12:20 P.M. – Arkansas High School Jazz Band directed by Gary Meggs with special guest Dick Eckstein

1:40 P.M. –  Henderson State NuFuion directed by Rick Dimond

3:00 P.M. – Arkansas Jazz Orchestra lead by Bill Halbrook with vocalist Shirley Chauvin

4:20 P.M. – University of Arkansas in Monticello directed by Jason Smith with special guest Matt Catingub on saxophone, keyboards and vocals

5:40 P.M. – “Jazz Jam” featuring JazzFest Headliners

Location: Under the Broadway Street Sky-bridge in downtown Hot Springs’ Entertainment District
Admission: Free!  No Coolers Please.  Your support of the beverage and food vendors helps to keep this concert free.  Do bring your lawn chair to assure a comfortable seat.

Jazz Mass @ St. Luke’s Episcopal Church

Join St. Luke’s Episcopal Church at a very special Sunday Service with live jazz music featuring Jeff Long on piano, Matt Dickson on tenor saxophone, Brad Birge on bass, Shelley Martin on flute & soprano saxophono and Jay Payette on drums.

Jazz After Church

Featuring sacred vocal and instrumental jazz music composed in the styles of some of the greats of jazz composition! Featuring the jazz trio of Dr. Ron Hall (leader, keyboards, and vocals), Byron Yancey (bass), and Paul Stivitts (percussion).  Featured vocalists are Ruby Hill and Jennifer Evans.  Other instrumentalists have been invited to “jam.”
